Dr. Emma Roberts
Head of Law at the University of Salford
Dr Emma Roberts has been Head of Law at the University of Salford since September 2023. Her academic work focuses on legal education and the intersection of law, policy and institutional practice, particularly within higher education. Her wider experience encompasses academic leadership and engagement with professional, policy and sector organisations.
Through the Centre for Sustainable Innovation, Emma is particularly interested in bringing legal perspectives into the Centre’s work with businesses. She can contribute to discussions around the legal responsibilities and liabilities arising in commercial settings, including contractual relationships, duty of care, risk, consumer-facing obligations and the legal implications of business decision-making. She is also interested in bringing these perspectives into wider interdisciplinary work on innovation. Alongside contributing directly to CSI’s events and knowledge exchange activity, she can help connect businesses and project teams with relevant specialist expertise within the University’s Law department.
Prior to joining Salford, Emma held a range of academic leadership roles at universities in England and Wales, including Director of Teaching, Learning and Transitions, Director of International and Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes.
Emma’s understanding of enterprise is informed by first-hand experience of running her own business, giving her practical insight into commercial decision-making, risk and business development.
Separately, she has almost a decade of experience in charity governance, through which she has gained practical experience of organisational governance and public procurement within the social care sector.
