
Lecturer in Human Resource Management
Fatima Malik is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management and an Affiliate of the Centre for Sustainable Innovation. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development (MCIPD).
Originally trained in Analytical Chemistry, with professional experience in Process Quality Assurance and Environmental Monitoring, Fatima brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work across human resource management, sustainability, and innovation. Her previous employment spans the energy and utilities sector, as well as programme leadership and teaching in Business and Management and Human Resource Management within Higher Education.
Fatima’s research focuses on work‑life conflict, examining workers’ lived experiences alongside organisational policy and practice. She also researches skills development and training in high‑skill sectors, including pharmaceuticals, bioscience, and biotechnology, and explores employee experiences of digitalisation, particularly the introduction of robotics and digital technologies in the NHS. Her work contributes to understanding how technological change and sustainability agendas shape work, wellbeing, and workforce capability.
Her research has been published in leading peer‑reviewed journals, including the Journal of Education and Work, the British Journal of Management, and Organizational Research Methods. Fatima has also presented her research alongside international disciplinary experts at major conferences such as the Academy of Management, the British Academy of Management, and the Work and Family Research Network.
Through her teaching and research, Fatima contributes to the Centre for Sustainable Innovation’s focus on sustainable work, responsible leadership, and the future of employment.
